Fresh Vegetables at the Market
The following is an estimate of the costs for running the Senga Bay Nutrition Centre based on 35 children attending the centre. It is based on average costs over the a few months of running. Prices do tend to fluctuate in Malawi, as does the exchange rate so the values are subject to change.

• Nutritious Food and Vitamins, £1180/month.
Vitamins cost £2 per month per child. Some food will be grown and some will be bought, depending on the time of year and the type of food. Care will be taken to both buy the types of food best recommended for boosting children’s immune systems and also to cook it in a manner that is most nutritious.

• Medical and Travel Fund, £120/month.
This fund is for trips to the big hospital in town or the local clinic plus cash for medicine prescribed.

• Activities and extras for children, £50/month.
This could include trips for the children, art supplies, schoolbooks, musical instruments, or photography supplies etc – depending on what activities the children and the staff come up with.

• Staff Wages, £270/month.
This pays for four staff managing the centre and the daily activities, two cooks, and a watchman.

• Running Costs, £170/month.
Water, electricity, firewood, toilet paper, receipt books, DHL for sending receipts to Nyumba in UK, transport to capital for buying vitamins and sending receipts.

Total: £1800/month.

We are asking you to be one of 180 people to give £10 each month.
