A BIG Thank you to those who have supported Nyumba Ya Thanzi

Notting Hill Prep

We are grateful to the teachers, parents and children at Notting Hill Preparatory school for supporting Nyumba Ya Thanzi. They have done some incredible fundraising for us allowing the nutrition centre to take on 10 extra children, to build a new building and take on a nutrition coordinator. Their support has truly allowed the nutrition project to blossom.

People who have donated skills

Hanna Miller - Accounts

Hannah, an accredited accountant, has been the independent examiner for our accounts since 2006. She has offered her professional time free of charge to make sure our accounts are up to scratch. She has also done a fantastic job setting up an efficient and thorough accounting system for us to make sure that all of our generous donations and project expenditure are clearly and professionally accounted for. We cannot thank her enough!

Georgia Levison - Branding

Georgia Levison is a highly experienced planner, currently working at Pearl Fisher. She has worked with Nyumba Ya Thanzi to help us create a branding strategy to present the trust in a way that we truly reflect what we do and why we do it that way. She has donated a huge amount of time and thought and has been an incredible asset to Nyumba. We are very grateful for her support. If you need a brilliant consultant for one of your projects, please contact us and we will put you in touch with her.

Storm Design - Web Site and Identity Development

David at Storm Design has developed this incredible website for us at a fraction of the actual cost. He has worked with us to understand Nyumba Ya Thanzi and to design a website that truly reflects our organisation. He also developed our new logo, flyers and a marketing strategy for the site. We hope you enjoy the site he has created as much as we do. www.stormdesign.eu

This is what some of our supporters who have visited the nutrition centre have to say

The Web Project

Nick at the web project visited the Nyumba Ya Thanzi Nutrition Centre and decided he wanted to support the project. Here’s what he has to say about it:

“The Nutrition Centre was conceived by local villager Richard Moyo in early 2008 with the following goals:
To encourage HIV positive parents to take their children for tests
To provide a nutritious diet and thereby help the immune system to function
To provide a travel fund to facilitate regular hospital visits
To provide emotional support and help fight the stigma of HIV

It's a straightforward approach that's having a dramatic impact on the 25 children who use the Nutrition Centre as well as the wider community. And Richard's already got bigger plans, including building a sanitation block and planting a market garden.
Having visited Nyumba Ya Thanzi The Web Project took the decision to provide a monthly financial contribution and commitment to support future fundraising. We were sincerely impressed with The House of Good Health and encourage everyone to find out more, and make an online donation...”

Charlotte Attwood

Charlotte spent 2 months at the project researching for her Master’s dissertation and here is what she has to say:

“I wanted my dissertation to investigate the impact of local initiative and cultural sensitivity in development. I spent months trying to find a project that had the right feel and it wasn’t until I came across Nyumba Ya Thanzi that I found exactly what I was looking for.

This project is one of the most inspiring places I have ever visited. It is entirely about a community coming together, discussing what it is that they need and making it happen. The fact that Richard is spearheading the project and is from a family that have lived in Senga bay for generations has an immeasurable impact on the success of this project. As a result it is automatically a place that everyone can relate to, everyone trusts and everyone is keen to get involved in. Just in the short time I was there I saw daily the huge affect that this centre has on both the lives of the children and the people in the surrounding community.

In short, the amount that this small project is able to achieve proved my initial convictions totally right. That is, the only way to have a truly positive impact on peoples lives in any community across the world is to trust that it is those within the community that know best and more importantly can make it happen. This is why, I believe, Nyumba Ya Thanzi is such a great foundation to support. Because it supports communities by giving the people within those communities the opportunity to make their ideas happen.”
